Holly Klump (me!) is the artist behind misshawklet.com. My hand bound books are made from mostly recycled materials such as withdrawn library books, old computer paper, puzzles, and other thrifted materials. Part of the fun of creating books is digging through her piles of found materials!

All the fibers for misshawklet handspun yarn are carefully chosen by Holly. I purchase farm or what I call "animal friendly" wool and mohair from a small rescue farm in Wisconsin, where I know the sheep are spoiled rotten! You can feel good about buying wool from a sustainable source. Farm wool is scoured at the farm without the use of chemicals or bleach. Baby and people friendly too!

I purchase "mill end" wool, which is fiber that comes from a large yarn company. These mill ends are seconds that would otherwise go to waste, so I feel good about making use of fiber that would otherwise be tossed away. It is super soft and wonderful on your skin, but has been processed like commerical wool.

The Falkland wool that I purchase comes from a large farm in the Falkland Islands, which is off of coast of South America. I like this wool because it is a super soft merino crossbreed, but it is minimally processed. The farm does not foot dip their sheep or over-vaccinate their animals. The wool is cleaned without chemicals and bleach, and they consider the sheep to therefore be "green" sheep. I like the philosophy of the owners of this farm, which is why I purchase wool from them as well.

All of the plant fibers used in misshawklet yarn are purchased from another small business. It is important that misshawklet supports other small businesses as much as possible, and I make every effort to do this when purchasing supplies. All of the cotton fibers that I purchase for misshawklet yarns are organic. I also offer fibers such as hemp, tencel, viscose, nylon, faux cashmere. Some of my yarns are therefore suitable for vegan knitters!

I have been creating all my life but misshawklet.com was created in November of 2004. I live in Nashua, NH.
